How to Identify a
Poltergeist
Poltergeists
are characterized by loud bangs, clangs and crashes that
may be accompanied by objects being hurled through the
air with no apparent cause. Although frightening to the
observer, poltergeist activity rarely causes harm to the
inhabitants of the home. The activity generally begins
suddenly and may last for days, weeks or months and then
the activity may just as suddenly cease. In some cases,
it is believed the activity is an unconscious
manifestation of rage or intense emotion from an
unsuspecting person, usually an adolescent or young adult
female.
- Step 1
- Evaluate the circumstances surrounding the activity. If the main phenomenon is auditory, explore other possible causes. Sounds can be amplified in the silence of night and what appears to be a loud bang when the house is quiet may well go unnoticed when the household is filled with family activity. Search the area is appears to come from. Is that sound really upstairs or could it be a tree branch hitting the side of the house in the wind? Could that booming sound be the neighbors when their back door swings shut? Check for sources of the sound both inside and outside the home. Have family members walk around in different rooms, opening and closing doors to see if any of the sounds resemble what you have heard.
- Step 2
- Explore physical movement of objects by completing daily activities. If the picture fall off the wall, investigate what activities could possible jar the wall and shake the picture loose? Try opening and closing doors, stomping around in adjacent rooms or even flushing the toilet to try to recreate the action.
- Step
3
Consider the possibility that the activity may be an unconscious manifestation called Recurrent Spontaneous Psychokinesis where psychokinetic energy leaves the body of an person harboring repressed rage or fear, usually a young female, and results in physical disturbances in the surrounding area. Explore this possibility by noting who is present when activity occurs. It may be more effective to note days of no activity and determine who was not present during that period of time. If you discover that activity centers around one particular person, you may wish to explore the emotional health of this individual. - Step
4
